ADAM SHERIDAN INTERVIEW AHEAD OF HIS PERFORMANCE AT SLINKY'S HALLOWEEN BALL
Few DJs can claim to be truely Global. From The UK to the Balearics, San Fransisco to the Far East, and from South America to Asia, 2008 has seen Adam Sheridan take his genre busting, electronic sound to all corners of the Earth. Slinky are lucky enough to have him lining up alongside Marco V for our 2009 Halloween Ball
1. Hi Adam, traditionally with Slinky interviews we ask the DJs what they’re currently listening to, where they’re sat, and what their favourite TV programmes are just so we can get the picture. Please tell.
I’m currently sat at home on the sofa with my feet up watching the X factor and chilling with a green tea after a brilliant gig in Glasgow at the arches!
2. It’s that time of year again when the DJ Mag votes start to be cast. Do you personally place any value on accolades such as the DJ Mag Awards and is it important to you to receive that type of recognition?
I got in there for the first time last year at number 53. It was an amazing feeling, very overwhelming to be in there and I think it is a great for any DJ, however I had a successful 9 years previous without being in the top 100 and achieved some great things and did some mind blowing shows.
3. For last year’s Halloween Ball the Slinky crew all revealed their scariest ever experiences. Now it’s your turn so we’d like to know what event in your life was the scariest or most frightening.
It would have to be, although this is also one of my most memorable gigs it was still scary! I did a gig in Columbia on a beach. It was really windy on stage and I’m petrified of wind. One of my worst phobias. The Speakers were hung up from the top of the stage rig and they were swinging back and forth. I was shaking the whole time throughout my set,
4. And how did you get into the crazy world of hard house, hard dance, and trance? Was there a defining moment when you knew it was something you wanted to be involved in?
The first ever gig I did was a warm up for a hard house night in Manchester, it went really well and that continued and escalated, to me playing main stages and peak slots all over the world. The defining moment I think was being picked out by 2 of the top 5 djs in the world as there best undiscovered dj for that year.
5. What track would you most like to remix and what track never leaves your box?
I really want to do a remix of the luniz, I got five on it.. and a track that never leaves my box is underworld born slippy. A timeless classic that always destroys the dancefloor no matter where in the world you are!
6. Who have been the biggest influences on your career to date?
I first started listening to Sasha’s "Global Underground" in 1995, and also Carl Cox "The Fact" so those guys were big early influences of mine. Then also Paul van Dyk. Pauls been a massive influence to me and a great help over the years!
7. What is the strangest thing that has happened to you whilst djing in a club?
I was doing a tour of Australia and I seen the police come into the club. At first I thought they were gonna close the party down… all they wanted to do was come in the dj box and get a photo with me :) Very Strange!
8. Is there anything you want to tell us about that will happening in 2009 and 2010 for yourself? For example any new tracks or productions or DJ gigs?
I Just launched a new album project called "The Timezone" series, its gonna be released in different stages spread across 09/10. Each track will be influenced by a different continent that I have visited over the past 10 years. At the end of the series there will be an artist brought in from each continent to do a remix. Im also looking forward to going back to LA in 2010 and have some other production surprises to come.
9. So what can the Slinky clubbers expect from you on the 31st of October in the room two?
Expect pumping electronic dance music, a big smile, plenty of energy with a few Slinky classics and surprises thrown in!
10. Lastly, you’re a man of the world, and an all round knowledgeable guy. With that in mind we’re going to leave the last word to you.
Id just like to say some of my most memorable gigs have been down at Slinky, one of the big turning points in my career was when Slinky let me warm up for Paul van Dyk in Bristol. I was also fortunate to play at the last event they did at the Opera House before it got closed down a few years ago. A very memorable gig that was so im really, really looking forward to coming back down. It’s been too long thanks a lot for having me.
